From the Mountains to the Coast
??When I arrived at the coast, it was very hot. The city that I visited was Machala, one of the biggest city’s in Ecuador. It is known as the “World's Capital of Banana”. The seafood it's outstanding, with nice people to talk to. One friend of mine, “Shephard” received me at his students' house with other friends.
??Cuando llegué a la costa, Machala, es una de las ciudades mas grandes del Ecuador, es conocida como ¨la capital mundial del banano¨una ciudad muy caliente, con lugares muy bonitos, con comida del mar extraordinaria, ahí, me recibiría un amigo Shephard quien vivía en una casa de estudiantes y amigos.
??I stayed two days in Machala and I enjoyed good times with my old and new friends. I also prepared further details of the incoming trip around South America. I changed the oil of La Balita‘s engine and I fixed the rain clothes.
?? dos días pasé en Machala, disfrutando de la buena energía y alistando los últimos detalles para el viaje por Sudamerica, cambié el aceite a la balita, ajusté varias cosas, arreglé la bendita ropa de lluvia, es decir tenia todo listo, de hecho,.
??I’ll always remember and be thankful with Shephard because he ended up inviting me “the last good meal” that you will have in your adventure… in that moment it was very surprising to me to hear that.
??No olvidaré las palabras de Shephard ¨vamos, te voy a invitar la ultima buena comida que tendrás en un buen tiempo¨ palabras que sin duda me sorprendieron muchísimo.
Newspaper article: “The Journey Begins”
?? I went to the newspaper because of an invitation after they read an article about me on El Tiempo; I was nervous about it. One reporter asked many questions about ‘the' why, when and how I decided to accomplish in this trip. But above everything:

??I was pretty sure, indeed. In fact, the journey begins now.
??En los días en Machala fui invitado a acudir a un diario que se entero del incipiente periplo gracias a una nota realizada por un diario en Cuenca, claro que estaba nervioso, el reportero preguntando ¿el cómo ? ¿cuando donde y por que ?, y el usual para esos días ¿estas seguro? y bueno al final si estaba seguro.
??Machala is 70Km away from the border with Peru. The last border city is called Huaquillas. In the last day, I got up early. I prepared La Balita and I said goodbye again in order to continue with the adventure. That morning my heart was beating strong, because of the emotion or maybe the heat or because of the fact that the journeys begins. La Balita was very comfortable and it makes me confident. I bought the newspaper’s at the gas station and I saw myself on it. This was tremendously surprising and it made me happy. Thankful with everybody, I left my fatherland.
??Machala esta a 70 km de la frontera con Peru, Huaquillas, me levante temprano, prepare la balita, y nuevamente dije adiós… el corazón me latía fuerte ya que sabia que ese día saldría de mi país natal, lleno de emociones, no se si por que la balita estaba funcionando perfecto, o por que luego de poner combustible en la balita compre el diario y ver el reportaje me llenó de alegría, agradecido con mi familia y amigos partí.
The Journey begins and this was the Last Call…
??When I got to the border and presented my documentation. I realized it was faster than I thought it would be. It was a kind of a “virtual” frontier because I got the feeling that many things are pretty similar.
- Weather.
- People (with a little speech variation).
- Landscape.
The journey begins when you leave home behind
??After crossing Peru for a few kilometers, I stopped and I checked if I had any phone signal left on my telephone. I decided to do the last call to my mother and father to say goodbye. I told them that I will send news soon as possible. It was a pretty nice moment as we were all crying of happiness, it was the beginning of the Sudamerica Nomad. Now, more than ever, the journey begins…
??Cuando llegué a la frontera, hacer los documentos para entrar en Peru, fue mucho mas fácil y rápido de lo que esperaba era una especie de ¨frontera virtual¨puero que se sentía absolutamente igual, las personas hablaban y lucían iguales, el acento era casi el mismo, y feliz entré en Peru, unos pocos kms dentro recordé, revisar si tenia señal en mi teléfono, y ¡si tenia! así que hice la ultima llamada a mis padres para decir adiós, también expresar lo mucho que los amo y que enviaré noticias tan pronto me sea posible, sin duda un momento en el que todos estábamos llorando de alegría por el comienzo de este Nomada Sudamericano…
